UP’s Kaala namak Rice packs a punch globally

by Suman Gupta

Kala namak is one of the finest quality scented rice, known as the scented black pearl of Uttar Pradesh. The rice is said to outshine even the most exclusive Basmati rice in all quality traits except grain length. The aroma of Kalanamak rice, which is said to be the gift of Gautam Buddha, is stronger than all Basmati varieties. The fragrance of this rice has now reached countries like Bhutan, Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.

On every front, the novel coronavirus has threatened the world. The demonic duo of the lockdown and the pandemic has most seriously hit the MSME’s, especially the furniture industry. Overcoming all obstacles, Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh has still kept up its name for being the leading producer of Kalanamak.

MSME sector forms the backbone of economic progress and development of Uttar Pradesh, because of its contribution to industrial productivity, employment generation, versatile nature, adaptability, and contribution in export. The Government of Uttar Pradesh through its ODOP program is aiming to encourage indigenous and specialized products and crafts produced by these MSMEs.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh’s revised/implemented new policies has impacted the rice farmers of Uttar Pradesh. They have pushed the rice for global branding by getting their own GI tag. Through export, the govt. will help UP rake in foreign exchange.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has also taken initiatives to collaborate with business giants such as Flipkart, eBay, Amazon helping them reach a huge customer base.
