New Delhi, 25 September 2026: Rotarian Lal Goel, Founder & Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International (RCODI) and Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation & GYAN, delivered a special one-hour talk on “ORGAN DONATION: THE GREATEST GIFT OF LIFE” on Doordarshan Urdu (DD Urdu) in New Delhi.
The programme was recorded for the popular DD Urdu programme “AAP KI BAATEIN” and will be telecast on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 8:00 PM IST.
During the wide-ranging interaction with renowned anchor Nauman Hashmi, Rotarian Lal Goel addressed a comprehensive range of issues relating to organ, tissue and body donation. The discussion covered the basics of organ and tissue donation; living donation and deceased donation following brain death; the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA) and related legal provisions; opt-in and opt-out systems; the critical challenges of lack of awareness and inadequate infrastructure; the cost of transplantation; government initiatives, including coverage under the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY); and common cultural and religious myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
Rotarian Goel emphasised that organ donation is not merely a medical issue but a humanitarian responsibility and a powerful expression of compassion and seva. He highlighted the urgent need to expand public awareness, strengthen the organ donation and transplantation infrastructure, improve access to transplantation, and encourage more people to make an informed pledge to donate their organs after death.
