Lokhandwala Diwali Lighting Festival returns after two years; neighbourhood celebrations to continue until 11 November

Mumbai, 1 November 2026 : Hon’ble Minister for Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, Shri Ashish Shelar inaugurated the Lokhandwala Diwali Festival at Lokhandwala Market, Andheri West, on Saturday evening, in the presence of Ms. Sayali Raghunath Kulkarni, Corporator, Ward 60 and National Secretary, BJP Yuva Morcha. Returning after a two-year break, the 12-day festival will continue from 31 October to 11 November.

An initiative of Lokhandwala Vyapari Mandal, organised with the support of Ms. Kulkarni, the festival brings festive lighting back to the neighbourhood during Diwali.

Addressing the event, Hon’ble Minister Shri Ashish Shelar said, “In a city where people lead busy lives, festivals give a reason to come together. These occasions should make everyone feel welcome, across generations and communities. It is also an opportunity to take forward Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s appeal to be ‘Vocal for Local’. As families enjoy the lights and celebrations, I urge them to choose Indian-made diyas, decorations and gifts, so that the joy of Diwali reaches the artisans and families who make them.”

Appealing to residents to celebrate responsibly, Ms. Sayali Raghunath Kulkarni, Corporator, Ward 60 and National Secretary, BJP Yuva Morcha, said, “Many residents remember visiting Lokhandwala’s Diwali lights with their families, and we wanted children growing up here today to share that experience. We want families to enjoy the lights and celebrations while being mindful of those around them. Diwali can be joyful without excessive noise. I appeal to everyone to keep the volume down, avoid loud firecrackers and remember that senior citizens, young children, people who are unwell and animals share our neighbourhood. A good celebration is one that everyone can enjoy comfortably.”

Residents and visitors can view the festive lighting at Lokhandwala Market, Andheri West, during the 12-day celebration.
