Former FIFA referee Suvarna is no more

Mumbai, January : Former FIFA referee, AFC referee instructor and AIFF & AFC match commissioner, Madhav G. Suvarna, passed away after a brief illness at his residence, here, in Mumbai on Thursday evening. Suvarna, 78, is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

The BRA (Bombay Referee’s Association) member, Suvarna, during his long association with the sport officiated in many prestigious tournaments in India and was later appointed as match commissioner. He also had the distinction of officiating in several international tournaments. Suvarna also served as honorary secretary of AIFF Referees Board. He was also a renowned instructor and shared his vast knowledge with the young upcoming referees during his tenure.

The final rites and cremation was held on Thursday night.
