The highlight of the exhibit was Canon’s new Sumire PL Prime series of fixed-focal-length cinema lenses that achieve beautiful skin tones and artistic image rendering. It comes with an interchangeable PL mount, featuring fast T stop values.

Speaking about Canon’s participation in Broadcast India Show 2019, Mr. Kazutada Kobayashi, President and CEO, Canon India Pvt. Ltd. said, “At Canon, we are constantly looking at avenues to further promote the imaging culture in the country. As one of the most reputed and premium platform for the broadcasting and cinema industry, Broadcast India Show has always provided us with an arena to demonstrate our expertise and interact with existing and potential customers. The overwhelming response received during the previous years has motivated us to further continue our efforts in bringing forth innovative products and services to our customers. In our constant endeavor to always delight the customers, this year, we announced the Sumire Lenses, a prime series of fixed focal length cinema lenses for PL mount cameras. We look forward to enhanced customer participation in the show, thereby aiming to connect and collaborate with more audience and drive greater visibility for the brand.”

Sharing his thoughts, Mr. C Sukumaran – Director, Consumer System Products Division and Image Communication Products Division said, “Broadcast India Show has always provided us with an opportune platform to interact with the audience and gauge first hand feedback from them. This year the highlight of our stall will be ‘Sumire Prime’ lenses, intended to inspire creativity within the motion picture production industry. Sumire lens is compatible with any PL mount cinema cameras equipped with a 35mm full-frame format sensor including selective Cinema EOS cameras like Cinema EOS C300 Mark II PL, C700 PL & C700 FF PL cameras. Supporting an 11 blade iris ensures soft bokeh subtly modifying the textural renderings of the human facial close-up, giving customers the best video capturing capabilities possible. Through this series we hope to provide filmmakers and cinematographers the power to add gentle and artistically pleasing effect to their stories. Additionally, it is a matter of pride to share that our Cinema EOS C700 FF camera has been used along with Cinema lenses for shooting the upcoming movie ‘Mai Ghat’.”

The launch was also graced by the production team of Alchemy Vision Workz including the Director – Mr. Ananth Mahadevan, DOP – Mr. Alphonse Roy, Producer – Ms. Mohini Gupta and lead actor – Ms. Usha Jadhav of the famous upcoming film ‘Mai Ghat’ to be released soon. Brief Detail on the new Sumire Prime lenses:

Key highlights of Sumire Prime lenses

  • Beautiful skin tones and textures

  • Soft and natural bokeh

  • Uniform color balance

  • Artistic Image rendering

There are total of 7 lenses under Sumire Prime PL Mount

  • CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X

  • CN-E20mm T1.5 FP X

  • CN-E24mm T1.5 FP X

  • CN-E35mm T1.5 FP X

  • CN-E50mm T1.3 FP X

  • CN-E85mm T1.3 FP X

  • CN-E135mm T2.2 FP X

The seven new lens models that make up the Sumire Prime series employ such optical technologies as large-diameter aspherical lens elements and low-dispersion glass placed in a proprietary optical arrangement that realizes artistically pleasing image rendering while subjects maintain a sense of solidity. In contrast to Canon’s series of fixed-focal-length lenses for the EF mount, which are characterized by their high levels of sharpness, the PL-mount Sumire Prime series is characterized by beautiful, impressive image rendering that realizes a blurring of the out-of-focus areas that spreads softly into the background to achieve a delicate separation of the subject. What’s more, through the warm tones shared by both series, the lenses make possible video expression with soft, natural rendering of human subjects.
