  • Zen Multispecialty Hospital, Mumbai, recently carried out a survey and detected fatty liver in 56 people who underwent a regular check-up.

  • It is the need of the hour to tackle the fatty liver at the right time.

Mumbai: Zen Multispecialty Hospital, Mumbai, conducted basic routine preventive health check-ups among communities around Chembur area including blood investigation and ultrasound abdomen and pelvis amongst 580 people, for over last one year. Out of 580, 382 were males and 198 were females. The health check-up was carried out in the age group of 27-74. One is advised to undergo preventive health check-up as the body too needs to be tuned up regularly and checked for optimal functioning.  Thus, a preventive health check-up is a way to foretell serious health complications and it will also give you a chance to tackle your health issues. So, after the completion of the check-up, the doctors came up with a shocking revelation!

The check-ups which were conducted found that fatty liver was detected in 56 people who were assumed to be fit with no such previous history.  Also, the male to female ratio of fatty liver was 38:18, that means 38 males and 18 females were diagnosed with fatty liver. The figures are harrowing!

Dr. Roy Patankar, Director of Zen Multispecialty Hospital says, “Fatty liver means you have extra fat in your liver. It can be termed as a silent killer. There are two types of it- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and Alcoholic fatty liver disease, also called alcoholic steatohepatitis. Nowadays, people are suffering from a fatty liver at a young age due to the kind of lifestyle and dietary habits. It can be life-threatening, if not tackled at the right time.”

“Fatty liver can be fatal if it remains undiagnosed. Later, it may also cause permanent damage to your liver (which is called cirrhosis of the liver). Cirrhosis is a progression of fatty liver disease of not treated that involves loss of liver cells and irreversible scarring of the liver. Those having fatty liver, may not exhibit any symptoms like the ones who underwent preventive check-ups conducted by us. So, this World Liver Day, we urge people to pledge to protect their liver, and live a healthier and happier life.” Adds Dr. Patankar.
