Wockhardt Hospitals ,Mira Road, Creates Awareness for Organ Transplant

Dharma Gurus of various communities have joined hands to support the cause of organ donation
Mumbai: Every Year more than 5 Lakh people die due to lack of Organ Donors in India. According to the Indian Health Ministry approx. 1,75,000 Kidneys, 50,000 liver, heart & lungs are required by patients every year. To create awareness regarding organ donation, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road alongwith Dharam Gurus of all communities have taken a unique initiative by starting this campaign “Gifting Life, Beyond Religion”. The hospital along with Dharma Gurus from various Religions viz. Hindu, Jain, Brahmachari, Buddhist, Christian initiated this campaign. Present on the occasion were Dr. Puneet Bhuwania, Consultant Nephrologist & Kidney Transplant Physician, Dr. Prakash Tejwani, Consultant Urologist & Kidney Transplant Surgeon; Dr. Ashutosh Baghel, Consultant Urologist & Kidney Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Aklesh Tandekar, Consultant Intensivist, Dr. Pankaj Dhamija, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.
Every Year more than 50,000 Kidney Failure Patients require Kidney Transplant while less than 5000 Patients receive Kidney Transplant via Live/ Cadaver Donation which is totally opposite in countries like USA, where Cadaver Transplant predominates Live Transplant.
Dr Puneet Bhuwania, Consultant Nephrologist & Kidney Transplant Physician said, “We at Wockhardt Kidney Transplant Institute, Mira Road believe in – Life Wins. Keeping our motto in mind, this campaign will definitely change the mindset of people and motivate them to donate organs and save lives. One individual can donate up to 8 organs. We are happy to work alongwith the community gurus to spread this awareness and also work in engaging more socially responsible citizens, who can help us to change the scenario when it comes to organ donation. This noble cause is not limited to any religion, caste, or creed. It is a life-saving act.”
