Wadia Group hosted 76th edition of C. N. Wadia Gold Cup 2020 at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai

Mumbai: The Wadia Group organized 76th edition of C. N. Wadia Gold Cup 2020 at the Paddock area, Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai, in memory of Sir Cusrow Wadia, a great visionary and philanthropist from the Wadia Family. Mr. Ness Wadia, M.D., Wadia Group, Mr Aloke Banerjee, CEO, Bombay Dyeing (Retail) and other senior officials from the Wadia Group were present on the occasion. This yearly initiative was supported by Wadia Group companies – Britannia Industries Ltd, Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Co, GoAir, Bombay Realty, Bombay Burmah Trading Company Ltd, National Peroxide Ltd, and Wadia Hospitals.

Children who have survived cardiac ailments such as open-heart surgery/stroke and other interventions performed at the event. 10 paediatric cardiac patients who have overcome the heart ailments were also felicitated on the occasion.

Generations of Wadia family have been deeply involved in philanthropic work with the sole objective to support the marginalized sections of the society. Their community welfare began with the efforts of Bai Jerbai Wadia, who determinedly set out to construct low cost baugs or housing colonies in Bombay for lower and middle-class section. Between 1908 and 1956, a total of five baugs were built on more than 35 Acres of property, with over 1500 Apartments built in 64 buildings. Inspired by her commitment towards quality healthcare her sons Ness and Cusrow set about building much needed hospitals in Bombay. The Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital grew out of the passion that Sir Ness Wadia had for improving the condition of the society and ensure healthcare for all. Sir Cusrow Wadia joined his brother Ness to build the Bai Jerbai Wadia womens Hospital in the memory of their mother. Today, the two hospitals have some of the best research facilities and the most distinguished medical practitioners in attendance.

The Sir Ness Wadia Foundation, a charitable trust set up in 1969 has disbursed funds to a wide spectrum of causes ranging from Medical needs of the less fortunate to scholarships for the disabled to drought relief in different parts of the world. Modern Education Society, a Trust set up to provide quality and affordable education today manages 7 educational institutes across Pune and Mumbai. In many ways, human factor has been the cornerstone of the Group’s success.

Mr. Ness Wadia, M.D., Wadia Group, expressed gratitude to all present at the event and said, “It is a moment of pride for me to represent Wadia Group on this special occasion to commemorate the immense contributions made by Sir Cusrow Wadia, not only as a successful businessman but as a custodian of the legacy of philanthropy his parents left him.A keen horseracing enthusiast, Sir C N Wadia was instrumental in giving Mumbai it’s first and only world-class racecourse, which is one of Mumbai’s greatest architectural landmarks. The lasting legacy left behind by Sir C N Wadia has been a huge responsibility for successive generations of Wadia family to carry on, and I am certain that the future generations will continue to walk the path laid down by him.”
