Tech Mahindra Foundation and Mission Oxygen to Set Up 50 Oxygen Plants for Charitable and Government Hospitals Across India

Enable immediate access to Oxygen concentrators and provision of Oxygen generation plants

by Suman Gupta

Mumbai – May 12th, 2021: Tech Mahindra foundation, the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) arm of Tech Mahindra Ltd., a leading provider of digital transformation, consulting and business re-engineering services and solutions, today announced its support to Mission Oxygen, an initiative by Democracy People Foundation, to ensure last mile delivery of oxygen supply across India. The partnership will strive to ensure that hospitals, nursing homes and medical care facilities, especially in tier-2 cities, get immediate access to oxygen.

Considering the likelihood of a wave 3, the goal of this initiative in its second phase will be to also enable hospitals to become self-sufficient by enabling the provision of PSA (Pressure swing adsorption) plants. Few of these plants will produce cylindrical capacity of 15 Nm3/hour which will amount to 55 oxygen cylinders per day. This will be able to support uninterrupted O2 supply to 27-30 patients.

Jagdish Mitra, Chief Strategy Officer & Head of Growth, Tech Mahindra, said, “We at Tech Mahindra, are determined to support people and the society at large in these difficult times. We are aware of the likelihood of the virus coming back in another wave, and therefore, feel the need to support our country to prepare better by strengthening the healthcare system, especially in areas where the cases are to peak in the next 3-5 weeks based on analytics and data modelling.  To this effect, we are extending our support to Mission Oxygen, a group of extremely agile entrepreneurs who have done a splendid job in providing oxygen concentrators. We are confident that together we can contribute towards enabling the supply chain digitally and provide immediate access of oxygen concentrators to hospitals, and also setup permanent oxygen facilities for the long run”.

Mission Oxygen is an initiative by the Democracy People Foundation with participation of 250 entrepreneurs that has successfully raised Rs 36 Crores through its efforts and has already donated 1000 Oxygen Concentrators and will donate 5000 more Oxygen Generators by the 20th of May.  It has also setup an oxygen plant in Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital in Delhi in a record 7 days as a part of its initiative to ensure that hospitals have a permanent setup, rather than depend on cylinders and concentrators.  As part of the partnership, Tech Mahindra will provide technologies to digitally support the campaign and enable their supply chain operations. Additionally, the partnership will also leverage the Tech Mahindra’s global partner ecosystem of associates, clients and partners to raise awareness.

Mission Oxygen campaign is funded by the citizens of India and by Indian across the world. The oxygen concentrators that have been donated are already saving lives at various Government hospitals with several of them donated to the Border Security Force and Army hospitals to show our respect and solidarity with them for their service to our nation.

Rahul Aggarwal, Founding Member, Mission Oxygen, and Trustee Democracy People Foundation said, “We are determined to ensure that very soon we reach a stage where not a single life is lost due to the unavailability of oxygen. We want to ensure that this fundamental need to survive this wave and overcome the future waves is made available to our fellow Indians. We are working tirelessly to ensure that we are providing locally relevant solutions at the fastest pace possible and are thankful to the lakhs of people who have contributed and placed trust in us and helped save thousands of lives. We look forward to combining our forces with Tech Mahindra and getting support from their larger global resources to ensure that we will achieve our objectives sooner.
