Sunil Gavaskar is the Godfather of Indian Cricket – Richards

by Suman Gupta

World’s cricketing legends relive their experiences exclusively on Midwicket Stories – a talk show filled with stories from the legends who are institutions in themselves

Mumbai, August 2: One of the finest batsmen of his time whose undoubted forte was his attacking prowess, Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richard’s eloquence on the cricket field knew no boundaries. A similar strain of this exemplary fluency came to the fore when Richards was all praise for Sunil Gavaskar. “I’ve always looked upon Sunil Gavaskar as being the Godfather of Indian batsmanship.”

Not just this, Richards at a gala event of Midwicket Stories in Dubai in March, said, “Sunny was among one of my best friends, and an individual whom I have admired for many years, I would have stayed at first slip and seen the things he would have done to our bowlers, over the years.”

Such high praise coming from a batsman of immense pedigree augurs well for the ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar, who continues to enchant his legion of fans with new and splendid offerings, linked of course to the game, close to his heart, cricket.

No, for certain it is not Gavaskar’s newest creation, but Midwicket Stories has been around for some time now, with former Australian captain, Allan Border in tandem with Gavaskar doing the inaugural edition Down Under in November 2022. Later, in another splendid partnership, Gavaskar and Richards displayed their articulacy whilst bringing the house down in Dubai with their Midwicket Stories, laced with humour and candour as usual. Putting it simply, these anecdotal conversations as usual feature living legends, whose extraordinary achievements in sports are matched with their wit whilst dishing out Midwicket Stories.

Nishant Dayal, Founder, and Jaya Prasad, Co-Founder, Midwicket Stories, creators of this unique Initiative mentioned this will hold fans in thrall for years to come and dwelt on the multiple opportunities of hosting such an offering. Dayal who is also the Director of Elite Sports Management said, “Experiences is what is most exclusive at Midwicket Stories, which is a platform built for better interaction of the cricketing fans and cricketers. Midwicket Stories is bound to stir the imagination of cricket enthusiasts the world over for years to come. Each new edition will have something unique to offer with cricketers sharing a rare glimpse into the lives of the cricketers and their journey to success.”

Prasad added, “We had a good response with 200 people joining globally, and this time we are expecting 300 participants from across the stream, and we intend to do it in India. It is no wonder that fans are waiting with bated breath for the latest offering from Midwicket Stories. It provides opportunities for us to think out of the box whilst coming up with significant innovations. India’s rich vein of willow stories will definitely come to the fore.”

As Border stated when the curtain went up on Midwicket Stories in Australia, “India and Australia, this is Allan Border here. I’m excited to open the innings on Midwicket Stories. My legendary partner, Sunil Gavaskar, I’m pretty sure that there are going to be plenty of difficult deliveries that are going to be bowled at us on the night. I’m looking forward to exchanging plenty of stories with my mate Sunny, given our record of over 20,000 Test runs together!

Cricket Has A Heart!

Another sparkling initiative is the Dr. Dayal Foundation (DDF), which has pledged to support children’s congenital heart operations as part of MWS social outreach.  The Legend Gavaskar, too, has been sponsoring over 35 operations every year for the Heart to Heart Foundation. Cricket for sure has a huge heart!

Now, it’s time for the Indian leg of the mega events!
