India Post, Mumbai Region will release a Special Cover on Monday, 4, January , 2021, at 11:00 am, on the occasion of ‘World Braille Day’ in the Conference Hall of Office of the Postmaster General, Mumbai Region, Mumbai General Post office premise.
The Special cover will be released by honorable Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra & Goa Circle, Shri Harish Chandra Agrawal & Postmaster General, India Post, Mumbai Region, Ms Swati Pandey.
The event will felicitate visually impaired guests from across Mumbai city and suburb, Shri Anand. S. Athalekar, Shri Chandrakanth Gaikwad and Shri Ankush Nagrale, who have excelled in their respective fields of work, overcoming the challenges of being visually impaired and have contributed immensely towards the society.
Shri Anand S Athalekar is the Honorary Secretary of National Association for Blind, Worli founded in 1952 and works avidly for the education and upliftment of the visually impaired people. He has also written Braille teaching course books and Sulabh Abacus books in English, Hindi and Marathi (in Braille).
Shri Chandrakanth Gaikwad of Malad , an active worker, working for the development of visually impaired people runs developmental council for blind association with the help of Lion’s Club apart from his contribution towards sports and other social activities.
Shri Ankush Nagrale is a musician and percussionist par excellence and is recognized as one of the best Tabla accompanist in classical and light music in India and abroad.
As, 4, January, 2021 marks the World Braille Day, the event being chosen by the United Nations General Assembly via a proclamation in November 2018 to commemorate the birthday of Louis Braille, the creator of the Braille writing system, the special cover on release, will carry the design and unique braille alphabets and numerics embossed on it.
The main objective behind the release of this special cover is to spread awareness of the importance of “Braille” as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people.
