Mumbai Police raids counterfeit unit supplying duplicate Goodknight products

Mumbai, February 2024: Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), the company with brands like Goodknight, the market leader in the household insecticide category, and the Mumbai Police have recently acted against  Ashish Andabhai Chaudharywho was involved in manufacturing and supply of spurious Goodknight Flash products to various general stores in Mumbai. Acting on information from an investigation agency, the police conducted a raid at the supplier’s manufacturing facility located near Vasai in Maharashtra.

The raid resulted in the confiscation of a sizeable quantity of counterfeit materials, including approximately 50,000 Goodknight Flash empty bottles, 50,000 Goodknight Flash cartons, and 16,000 Goodknight wicks. An FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged against the accused under section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957, addressing counterfeiting and copyright infringement.

The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the distribution network responsible for these counterfeit products, aiming to eliminate the supply chain within Mumbai and the state of Maharashtra. This decisive action is expected to deter the sale of counterfeit products and ensure that consumers have access to genuine and safe Goodknight products.

Commenting on the issue, Shilpa Suresh, Head of Marketing – Home Care, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), said, “The proliferation of counterfeit products poses a significant threat to consumer safety and the integrity of the FMCG industry. Counterfeit items are not only illegal but can also be hazardous to human health. GCPL is committed to protecting our consumers by ensuring the availability of authentic and safe products. We regularly undertake quality checks of our products through a collaboration with our distribution network, local authorities, and consumers. This successful raid with the support of the Mumbai police highlights our continuous efforts to combat counterfeit products and protect consumer trust in Goodknight.

Considering the presence of counterfeit Goodknight products in the market, GCPL urges consumers to remain vigilant and purchase products only from authorized outlets with a genuine sales invoice.
