Mahindra University Announces Admissions Call for Ph.D. in Educational Studies for the Academic Year 2023-24

Hyderabad, 28 February, 2023 | Mahindra University (MU), one of India’s fastest-growing multidisciplinary educational institutions dedicated to imparting quality education announces admissions for Ph.D in Educational Studies for the academic year 2023-24.The program  is offering PhD Assistantships for full time research scholars. It is focusing on various dimensions of education using inter and multi-disciplinary approach for understanding and exploring complex contexts of education in dynamic learning environments.

Education as a discipline is not merely an area of practice, but it also goes beyond the classroom practice. It draws hugely from other social sciences and humanities, so it is inevitable that Indira Mahindra School of Education (IMSE) too incorporates a holistic approach alongside core professional fields of Education in its teaching and research agendas so that it flourishes as a centre for advancement of knowledge. The practice of teaching and research is largely unconventional and is informed by faculty’s engagements in their respective fields, and also the fields that are cutting edge or frontier in the field of education.

The duration of the Ph.D. program in Education is for a period of 3 years and extendable by one year after due considerations. The programme envisages a course work of one year mandatory for all Doctoral students with a greater emphasis on exposing the students to a wider domain and disciplines of education and other inter-related social science disciplines and impart research skills. After the successful completion of the one-year course work, candidates will be engaged in their chosen areas of research. The Program focuses on inculcating critical thinking and imparting research skills with sound training of research methodology.

Some of the indicative research areas include school education, higher education, sociology of education, educational leadership and management, psychology of education, educational innovations, history of education, economics of education, education policy studies, curriculum and pedagogical studies, technology and education, teacher education, etc.

The minimum qualifications required for admission in the Indira Mahindra School of Education  include Post-Graduate Degree in Education (MA Education or M.Ed.) or in any of the other social sciences (MA in Economics/ History/ Psychology/ Sociology/ Political Science) from any recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks; or Post-Graduate Degree in Sciences with a B.Ed./B El.Ed; or M Phil with an evidence of interest in Educational Studies; or UGC-JRF in any social science discipline or in Education.

Admission will be a two-stage process: In the first stage, applicants will be shortlisted based on their past academic credentials and their research proposals. Students are required to apply with a research proposal (max. 1500 words) in their chosen area of research. In the second stage, shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview by the faculty.

Indira Mahindra School of Education has a great pool of very talented and reputed faculty from all over the country. These faculty members have made name in their respective fields of expertise within Educational Studies and are trained and/or taught in well-known and highly ranked institutions nationally and internationally.

The selected candidates will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs 25000, besides providing free board and lodging facility on campus for three years. A significant advantage of Mahindra University is that every student is provided with Hostel accommodation on campus.
