Knights, Aspire FC score 3-0 victories

Mumbai: Strong favourites Mumbai Knights and Aspire Football Club registered identical 3-0 victories from their respective ninth round matches of the Maharashtra State women’s football league played at the Cooperage football ground. The champions of this competition will qualify for the AIFF Indian Women’s Football League.

Mumbai Knights powered by the brilliance of ace sharpshooter Priyanka who struck a brace of goals got the better of Warriors of Kolhapur 3-0.

In the second match, Aspire FC riding on the twin strikes from prolific scorer Gita Das prevailed over Puneri Warriors FC by a clear 3-0 margin.

Aspire faced quite a challenge from Puneri Warrior girls initially but just before the end of the first half Gite scored the first goal to take a slender 1-0 first half lead. Later, Asmi Kulkarni scored the second in the 47th minute before Gita once again found the back of the net in the 81st minute to complete the win.

Priyanka, who has been in consistent form, scored the first goal in the 20th minute to give Mumbai Knights a narrow 1-0 lead at the break. Mumbai Knights scored two quick goals in the dying moments of the match with substitute Mmehak Lobo scoring the second goal in the 90th minute and three minutes later Priyanka adding the third goal to round-off the winning margin.

Results: Aspire FC 3 (Gita Das 2 (45=1, 81, Asmi Kulkarni 47) beat Puneri Warriors FC 0.

Mumbai Knights 3 (Priyanka 2 (20, 90-3), Mmehak Lobo 90) beat Warriors of Kolhapur 0.
