Mumbai: Defending champions Parsee Gymkhana were a determined lot and they managed to make a winning start by snatching a thrilling 6-run victory against Young Mohammedan Cricket Club in a quarter-final match of the 71st Nawab Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by Islam Gymkhana under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and played at the Parsee Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive.
Champions of the last three editions, Parsee Gymkhana, who were sent into bat first could only muster a low total of 132 runs for 9 wickets from their 20 overs. The Parsee Gymkhana innings got off to a shaky start before number six bat Shams Mulani came to their rescue with a cameo unbeaten knock of 66 runs (34balls, 5×4, 4×6) which provided some respectability to the total. Young Mohammedan medium pacer Akhtar Shaikh (3 for 26) and off-break bowler Sanket Pande (3 for 18) were the main wicket-takers.
