CTC overcome Western to make Super Div final

Mumbai, June 2: Fancied Champions Training Centre (CTC) produced a solid combined performance and outlasted Western Railway SA charging to a fluent 3-0 win in a Super Division first semi-final match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Friday evening. Devindar Walmiki scored the opening goal before Talib Sha struck twice to complete the winning tally.

Western Railway put up quite a good fight initially and goalkeeper Sahil Nayak proved to be a hard nut to crack as he made some excellent saves throughout the match. But, Olympian Walmiki opened the scoring firing home the first goal from a field effort in the 13 minute as CTC gained the ascendancy in the first quarter. CTC doubled with Shah scoring from open play in the final minute of the first half.

CTC continued to dominate the proceedings and managed to add one more goal through Shah in the 56th minute and secure their win.

Western Railway custodian Nayak was later adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’.

Results (semi-finals): Champions Training Centre 3 (Talib Shah 2, Devindar Walmiki) beat Western Railway 0.
