Mumbai: The Bandra Police Station recently lodged a FIR against ex-members Ms. Rashmi Mehta, Mr. Niket Mehta, Smt. Sushila Mehta, Mr. Bhaven Mehta, Mr. Chetan Mehta of the Lilavati Hospital Trust and Mr Suresh Gurbux Motwani unveiling a major financial scandal. The FIR alleges that funds totaling Rs 11.50 crores were misused.
Mr. Prashant Kishore Mehta, a Permanent Trustee at Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre in Bandra, Mumbai since 2023 said “Since the time we took over, we have unearthed a scam of around ₹500 crore by the erstwhile board members which includes lawyer fees paid for internecine private disputes amongst trustees, bogus donations, and bogus advances to real estate companies for equipment purchases. We has filed a case against former board members for misusing funds allocated for medical equipment procurement. It was discovered that the ex-board members involved in the fraud also own Mayfair Realtors Pvt Ltd and Vesta India Pvt Ltd. In one instance, Rs 2.30 crores were transferred to Mayfair Realtors Pvt Ltd account in August 2001 but were not returned to the hospital trust fund with no documentation of their use. Similarly, during the fiscal year 2002-2003, Rs 14.22 crores meant for equipment procurement were given to Vesta Pvt Ltd owner, but only Rs 9.22 crores was refunded and not credited to the hospital’s account without any equipment acquired.
“An FIR has been lodged against ex-board members under sections 420, 406, and 34 of the IPC for transferring Rs 16.52 crores to Vesta Pvt Ltd and Mayfair Realtors Pvt Ltd without depositing Rs 11.50 crores back into the trust fund. We emphasized on taking strong action against those responsible as such fraudulent activities are detrimental to society’s well-being.” Adds Mr Prashant Mehta.
