MUMBAI / December 17, 2024: Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, in partnership with Aayush Eye Clinic & Lasik Center Chembur, Mumbai, has launched the WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond Laser System which is considered the precise system for refractive surgeries such as LASIK and other procedures involving cutting (resection) of the cornea. The machine was officially inaugurated on December 17th in Chembur.
Femtosecond laser eye surgery is a laser-based procedure that corrects vision problems like near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism. A femtosecond laser creates a flap in the cornea, which is then lifted to reshape the cornea with another laser. The flap is then repositioned to allow the eye to heal.
Femto laser treatment is more precise and customizable than traditional LASIK surgery, and it eliminates the need for a blade to cut the cornea. WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond Laser System is also minimally invasive and painless.
Mr. Rahul Agarwal, COO – Hospital Business, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, said, “With 15 hospitals in Mumbai and 26 hospitals throughout Maharashtra, we are committed to improving patient outcomes and care. The FS200 Femtosecond laser has doubled our capacity to provide a superior refractive surgery experience to patients”
Dr. Nita Shah, Head of Clinical Services at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, Chembur: “The WaveLight FS200 femtosecond laser provides very high level of precision, reliability and speed. Remarkably, it can create a standard 9mm corneal flap in just 6 seconds, making it the fastest flap-creation laser platform in the world which delivers effective and extremely reliable treatments. Traditional LASIK surgery uses a blade-like instrument to mechanically separate the cornea and create the flap. By contrast, femtosecond lasers, such as the WaveLight FS200, do not actually cut the cornea. Instead, they create a flap by using laser that produces tiny bubbles at precise depth and location. This ensures a completely blade-free LASIK experience for patients.”
She added: “WaveLight FS200 leads to much shortened procedure time. The fast-firing speed of the laser reduces the energy requirement and makes flap lifting much easier. The machine ensures consistent flap thickness with low standard deviation. The thickness of LASIK flaps is crucial for preventing complications after LASIK surgery. Safety, efficacy, and long-term stability are also remarkable.”
