Ambernath United win WCG women’s crown

Mumbai: Ambernath United had quite a fight on hands before they managed to get the better of Mumbai Knights FC in the women’s final of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament – 2022 and played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.

In an exciting clash, the teams went into the break with honours even at 1-all with Namrata Thakur scoring for the Ambernath side and Velaine D’Souza getting Mumbai Knights lone goal. However, in the second session the ultimate champs capitalized on the errors of the rivals to score two goals to emerge victorious.

Earlier, MYJ SC won a grand double winning both the Veteran Men’s 50+ and Veteran Men’s 40+ titles. In the over 50 years finals, MYJ defeated BBC FC 3-2 in a well-contested encounter. For MYJ Godfrey Pereira, Clyde C. and Thomas M. scored a goal each, while BBC FC scored through Sanjay Creado and Trevor Fernandes.

Later, MYJ SC defeated Amboli SC 3-0 with Glen Moraes, Clifford Kilmo and Agnelo Picardo, all contributing with a goal apiece to clinch the top honours.

Results – Women – final: Ambernath United 3 (Namrata Thakur, Alex Gaulam, Ritika Goveas) beat Mumbai Knights 1 (Velaine D’Souza).

Veteran Men (50+) – final: MYJ SC 3 (Godfrey Pereira, Clyde C., Thomas M.) beat BBC FC ‘B’ 2 (Sanjay Creado, Trevor Fernandes).

Veteran Men (40+) – final: MYJ SC 3 (Glen Moraes, Clifford Kilmo, Agnelo Picardo) beat Amboli SC 0.
