Mumbai: People have always lived with multiple health problems. Some experience them in childhood, some after their retirements and some just experience it all at once! One such case of multiple health problems was treated at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road which turned out to be very complicated and involved a high-risk surgery for a 70-year-old woman.

Mrs Kumudini Sanghvi had suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a hospital in Borivali. She underwent angiography where it was found that she had a block in all 3 major arteries of her heart. But her health problems didn’t stop just there. For further investigations, an Echocardiogram was done which showed that her heart function was found to be half normal. She was then shifted to Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road for further management.

At Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, further investigations were carried out and she was diagnosed with severe lung dysfunction. Here she was evaluated by Dr Sanggita Checker, Consultant Pulmonologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road. Now, this is where her journey to recovery starts as doctors continue treating so many of her diseases all at the same time. Dr Mayuresh Pradhan, Consultant Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road along with the team of doctors and surgeons came together to manage the multiple health problems of Mrs Kumudini.

When asked Dr Mayuresh about the whole process, he explains, “Dr Anup Taksande, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, carried out her cardiac evaluation and she was posted Subsequently for Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery under Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan. Dr Aniket Mule, Consultant Physician at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road was involved in her treatment of uncontrolled diabetes. In view of her multiple problems, a high-risk consent was taken and the relatives were explained all the possibilities and the risks and benefits involved in the surgery and the postoperative course was explained to them. Followed by this, she was started on the surgical process where Dr Kedar Pote, Cardiac Anaesthetist skilfully induced the patient and a Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery was successfully performed.”

It may be manageable to handle effectively when it comes to one or two health problems, but when you have multiple health problems, everything adds up and each tiny item becomes much more difficult to manage. Hence, her post-operative care was just as much complicated as her high-risk surgery was. Dr Mayuresh Pradhan further adds, “She was shifted to ICU under Dr Bipin Jibhkate, our Chief Intensivist. She was then extubated in the next 24 hours and recovered well. Dr Aniket Mule was involved in managing her diabetes in the postoperative period. She was regularly monitored by Dr Anup Taksande & Dr Sanggita Checker for her heart and Lung problems. She had developed intestinal obstruction which was managed conservatively by Dr Rajiv Manek, our General & Laparoscopic Surgeon. Once everything seemed under control, she was then shifted to the Ward and soon discharged home on Bipap support. In this way, a very complicated case was managed at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road and this would not have been possible without the Specialists that we have round the clock and all available under the same roof.”

It’s true when people say that any challenge can be tackled when you have a team. The doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road have proved just that! With doctors, surgeons and of course the paramedic team, a successful operation was performed.

When asked Mrs. Kumudini of her views, she conveyed her appreciation for the excellent treatment she received from Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan and the Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road team. “Because of their dedication, I was able to recover completely  and returned to my usual life. Their expertise, competence, and attention to the needs of patients were unparalleled,” patient said.
