Janhvi half ton powers Fort Youngsters victory

Mumbai, April 3: Fort Youngsters recorded an authoritative 67-run victory against Sainath Sports Club in a Pre-quarter-final match of the 1st MCA Women’s Cricket League, played at the Sachin Tendulkar ground-I, Kandivali on Monday.

Electing to bat first, Fort Youngsters were provided a solid start by openers Janhvi Kate who smashed a half century knock of 55 runs and Riya Chaudhary who contributed 19 runs which ensured their innings closed at 152 for 5 wickets from their 20 overs. Sainath SC’s off-spinner Amish Mhatre claimed 2 wickets for 5 runs.

Later, the Sainath SC batters were kept under control by the rival bowlers and only managed to make 85 runs for 7 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. To-order bat Shravani Patil was the leading scorer with 24 runs. Fort Youngsters medium pacer Zeal D’Mello 2 for 11 and off-spinner Batul Pereira 2 for 22 were responsible for picking the wickets and securing the team’s facile win.

In other matches, Payyade SC and Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation also registered wins to advance to the quarter-finals.

Payyade SC posted a comfortable 9-wicket win against Borivali CC at Sachin Tendulkar ground-II ground. Payyade bowlers Riddhi Kotecha 3 for 9, Mahi Thakkar 2 for 9 and Jeeya Mandrawadkar 2 for 19 bundled out Borivali CC for 61 runs in 20 overs. Later, both Humaira Kazi 30 runs and Tushi Shah 30 runs scored quickly and ensured Payyade SC reach 62 for 1 wicket in just 3.5 overs.

Vengsarkar Foundation restricted Glorious CC to just 57 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs and then easily chased the winning target making 59 runs for 2 wickets in 10 overs, at the MCA BKC ground.

In another last 16 encounter, Victory CC charged to a 7-wicket win against National CC.

Brief scores (PQF): Borivali CC 61 all out, 20 overs ( Riddhi Kotecha 3/9, Mahi Thakkar 2/9, Jeeya Mandrawadkar 2/19) lost to Payyade SC 62 for 1, 3.5 overs (Humaira Kazi 30, Tushi Shah 30). Payyade SC won by 9 wickets.

Glorious CC 57 for 8, 20 overs lost to Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation 59 for 2, 10 overs. Result: Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation won by 8 wickets.

Fort Youngsters 152 for 5, 20 overs (Janhvi Kate 55, Riya Chaudhary 19; Amish Mhatre 2/5) beat Sainath SC 85 for 7, 20 overs (Shravani Patil 24; Zeal D’Mello 2/11, Batul Pereira 2 for 22). Result: Fort Youngsters won by 67 runs.

National CC 70 for 9, 20 overs (Pooja Shah 2/9, Ishwari Gaikwad 2/10) lost to Victory CC 71 for 3, 9.2 overs (Mahek Porkar 21, Mitali Mhatre 18). Result: Victory CC won by 7 wickets.
