SOHFIT and SOB Maharashtra keep up with their commitment towards creating an inclusive environment through sports
Coach Sohrab Khushrushahi shares expertise with over 200 SOB Maharashtra Athletes & 50 coaches
March , 2023, Mumbai: SOHFIT by Sohrab Khushrushahi and Special Olympics Bharat Maharashtra reinstate their commitment towards developing an all-inclusive environment for athletes with an intellectual disability. Both organizations believe in the power of sports and exercise to strengthen and benefit Athletes with intellectual disability – physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
The collaboration between SOHFIT and SOB Maharashtra works on enhanced fitness levels along with making fitness accessible, easy and equipment free for 500+ athletes from Special Olympics Bharat Maharashtra. The program also offered the coaches of SOB Maharashtra an opportunity to learn fitness methods and movements from SOHFIT via a specially crafted program by Coach Sohrab.
Last year, SOHFIT marked its 5th anniversary by joining hands with SOB Maharashtra to create inclusive opportunities for their special athletes over the coming years. The association continues to become stronger and both organizations are extremely determined to give rise to a welcoming atmosphere that makes special athletes feel accepted and valued, while fostering a community of care and respect. It also gives SOB Maharashtra athletes a chance to directly access well-tailored programs and make these a part of their wellness regime.
Speaking on the collaboration, Ms Sandra Vaz, Area Director SO Bharat Maharashtra said, “The association with SOHFIT gives our special athletes the opportunity to access specialized health and wellness programs. Together with SOHFIT, fitness can become an integral part of the athletes’ lives. Through this fun filled exercise program the athletes can achieve higher goals according to their ability. The collaboration is highly beneficial and relevant for our organization as SOHFIT has given us the capability to train without equipment basis Raw Functional Training which makes the whole process much more attainable.”
With this collaboration, that brings differently-abled athletes to engage with the SOHFIT community of fitness enthusiasts, sports and fitness become a catalyst for positive change, inclusion and deeper community involvement.
Coach Sohrab Khushrushahi further added, “I’m at a loss for words today. We did a similar camp with 80 kids in August 2022 but this one just blew me away. The SOB campers and the SOHFIT community were all present in large numbers. It was 1 hour of the best coaching experience I’ve ever had. Meeting these special athletes made me realise how the simple things are all you need in life. Watching them smile was everything. This is only the start for Special Olympics Bharat and SOHFIT.”
The camp was attended by 200+ athletes from SOB Maharashtra, 50 coaches from 22 schools that form part of the SOB Maharashtra unified network. Everyone came together to celebrate movement and inclusion.
SOHFIT’s personalised and individually tailored programmes are simple and functionally purpose driven. The use of no equipment for their specially designed Raw Functional Training (RFT) makes it convenient and more accessible, even for those with special needs.
