January 2020 : Today Over 70 % of manufacturing activities in the country are being carried out in the Small, Medium and Micro sectors of the country. Over 6 Million such Industries exist in the country where welding is the major activity, Plays a very important and Vital role in the country’s, growth, development, economy and Exports. However, these sectors have a major drawback as they are unable to keep in pace with the changing technology needs and the skill requirement to meet the Global challenges.
The Indian Institute of welding in its endeavor to promote the Welding science and Technology in the country has decided to step in and assist these identified sectors to meet the challenges so that They can be able to take on the Industry 4.0 and meet the ZED requirements and compete globally. The IIW India the only Country member from India in The International Institute of Welding is organizing a 4 day International Welding Congress on the Theme of “Advanced Welding Technology & Quality Systems for Developing Economies” is designed to answer the needs of the Industries. Concurrently the India’s Premier welding Exclusive Welding Exhibition the WELDINDIA from 6th February to 9th February is also being organized in CIDCO Convention Centre at Vashi Navi Mumbai.
Mr R. Srinivasan Past president of the Institute and the Co chairman of the National Organizing committee stressed in his address to the media on 23rd January that The institute has teamed up with the Ministry of Skill development and with the various sector skill council and organizations such as CGSC, NSDC, IISSSC , and industries are working jointly to identify the shortcomings in terms of the Skills and the gaps that exists today . The various needs such as Technological Gaps, Knowledge level of the Workers, Certification levels, R&D requirements, and capital investment support are the areas that needs immediate attention and assistance to make these sectors stronger players of the Indian industry.
