GAIL awarded as the “Project Management Company of the Year” 2019 by Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel

New Delhi, December , 2019: GAIL (India) Limited has been awarded the “Project Management Company of the Year” for successfully completing Phase 1 of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline Project.  The award was given by Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to GAIL CMD & Director (Projects), Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak accompanied by Director (Marketing) Shri Gajendra Singh, Director (Business Development) Shri Manoj Jain, Director (Finance) Shri A. K. Tiwari and Executive Director (Projects) Shri M V Iyer at the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) Oil & Gas Industry Annual Awards 2019 ceremony held in New Delhi yesterday.

GAIL (India) Limited successfully completed the first phase of the Jagdishpur – Haldia Bokaro-Dhamra and Barauni – Guwahati natural gas pipeline, popularly known as the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline Project using advanced tools for project management, high precision HDD river crossings through two major rivers like Son and Ganga, within timelines and budget, while maintaining the highest safety standards during its execution.

The Phase 1 of ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’ pipeline was dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on February 17, 2019. The prestigious 2655 Km long JHBDPL project covers Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal and is being further extended from Barauni to Guwahati (Assam) through 729 km pipeline.

The natural gas pipeline will be crucial in reviving fertilizer units in Barauni, Sindri and Gorakhpur and also supply natural gas for houses and vehicles in Patna, Patna, Varanasi, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kolkata and other cities enroute the pipeline. The availability of environment friendly, convenient and economical natural gas will also help in reducing pollution levels. The project execution is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for thousands.
